She has faced abuse for standing up for women’s rights and spaces.

Suggesting her leader has been indifferent to the way she is treated, she said: “Keir and I last had conversations in September 2021, the week before the Labour Party conference.”

However she revealed she recently had a friendly chat with Rishi Sunak, who she said is a “very nice man”.

Asked if she would consider switching her allegiance to the Tories, she said: “I have got some friends on that side, but there are some really basic and fundamental ideological differences, like refugees and like Brexit and I couldn’t square that with myself.

“And also I think I’d be letting down my constituents.”

The Canterbury MP claimed her political career has suffered and she feels “flat” when new Labour MPs immediately get promoted.

She said it is like she has been “gaslighted”, adding: “It feels like the things I’ve achieved in Parliament are completely irrelevant to my own party.”

Labour has long been divided on trans issues, with accusations of flip-flopping.

Shadow Health Secretary Wes Streeting recently admitted that it was a mistake to insist that all trans women are women.
