Malibu, Los Angeles County Beaches and Ventura County Beaches are under a high surf advisory which was released by the National Weather Service on Monday at 1:38 p.m. The advisory is valid from Tuesday 11 p.m. until Saturday Dec. 27, at 11 a.m.
“Large breaking waves of 6 to 10 feet with dangerous rip currents,” can be anticipated according to the NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA. “Minor to potentially isolated moderate coastal flooding for south-facing beaches especially during high tides. This is expected to occur from Tuesday evening through Thursday due to strong southerly winds.”
“There is an increased risk for ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Large breaking waves can cause injury, wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats near shore,” the NWS said. “Remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly in such conditions, stay off the rocks.”
