A gas leak in downtown Los Altos required evacuations on Monday morning, authorities said.
An “audible” gas leak was reported around 10:17 a.m. in Parking Plaza North near First Street, indicating significant amounts of gas escaping. All residents and businesses on First Street between Main Street and West Edith Avenue and extending down to Third Street were notified to evacuate and avoid the area between Foothill, Edith and Main until further notice.
The evacuation may extend northeast from Third Street to San Antonio Road, the City of Los Altos said in an Instagram post.
Los Altos police and Santa Clara County Fire were working together to execute the evacuations. Pacific Gas & Electric will be on the scene to address the leak.
