The man accused of shooting and killing his wife in Arapahoe County last month waited hours to call 911, according to court documents.
David O’Grady, 37, called 911 just after 7:45 p.m. on Sept. 7. He told dispatchers that he was cleaning his gun when he accidentally shot his wife in the chest, and that he attempted CPR for roughly an hour before calling the police, according to his arrest affidavit.
When Arapahoe County sheriff’s deputies arrived in the 5200 block of Shawnee Way, O’Grady told them his wife had been dead for several hours, according to the document.
The coroner’s office identified the victim as 29-year-old Taylor Last.
O’Grady and Last got into a fight about a party earlier that night, the man told deputies. O’Grady said he knew the gun was loaded and fired into their bed. Then, when Last entered the room, he turned toward her and shot her in the chest, according to the affidavit.
Unidentified witnesses told deputies that they heard loud arguing coming from the bedroom before a large bang made them jump out of bed, investigators said.
O’Grady faces charges of first-degree murder with extreme indifference, first-degree murder after deliberation, failure to securely store his firearm, reckless endangerment and child abuse, according to Arapahoe County court records.
He is next set to appear in court on Dec. 12 for a preliminary hearing.
