A man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of pandering and weapons charges after a human trafficking enforcement operation carried out by law enforcement in San Mateo County, authorities said.
The unidentified 22-year-old man, who was previously convicted of a felony, was booked into the San Mateo County Jail, according to a social media post from the South San Francisco Police Department. He allegedly was found in possession of an unregistered firearm that had a high-capacity magazine.
The arrest occurred during a human trafficking operation by the SSFPD’s Human Exploitation & Apprehension Team, investigations division and partner agencies in collaboration with the Northern California Regional Intelligence Center and the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office, authorities said.
The operation’s aim was to find survivors of human trafficking and connect them with resources through Rape Trauma Services, authorities said. It also aimed to hold traffickers accountable.
“Ongoing partnerships between the South San Francisco Police Department, San Mateo County law enforcement agencies, the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office, NCRIC, and Rape Trauma Services are vital to identifying, supporting, and protecting survivors of human trafficking,” the department said.
