Man dies after being hit by train near Oakland BART station

OAKLAND — A man was killed Monday morning when he was struck by a BART train on the tracks south of the Fruitvale station, authorities said.

No information has been released yet about the man killed.

The fatality happened around 6:20 a.m. Monday.

Why the man was on the tracks is under investigation.

As of 7:50 a.m.  the station remained closed; trains were going through without stopping.

Service on the Green Line, which runs between Daly City and Berryessa/North San Jose, was stopped while police investigated, officials said.

It was not known when the station would reopen.  AC Transit was providing parallel bus service between the Coliseum and Lake Merritt stations, and BART was alerting riders about other connections.
