A Denver jury found a man guilty of first-degree murder and second-degree assault Friday after he shot two people, killing one, outside of Coors Field in 2021.
Javon Price, 25, faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, according to a Denver District Attorney’s Office news release.
“This case is yet another example of the tragic consequences that often result when people try to settle arguments with guns,” DA John Walsh said in the release. “As a result of this verdict, Javon Price will pay a significant price for his actions, as he should.”
Price’s arrest affidavit states that he was a concession worker at the ballpark and left his job early on Aug. 6, 2021, before returning later that evening.
As thousands of Rockies fans were exiting the venue, Price shot and killed a fellow employee — Gregory Hopkins, 41 — and wounded a bystander.
Another concession worker, Rayvell Powell, was also charged with murder and assault in connection with the shooting. Those charges were dropped a few months later, though court records indicate Powell was again charged with murder Wednesday.
A third defendant, Treneil McNeal, was found guilty of second-degree murder and sentenced to 40 years’ imprisonment in 2023 for giving Price the handgun used to kill Hopkins.
Price’s sentencing is scheduled for July 2.
