Man sought in Livermore freeway shooting; no one hurt

LIVERMORE — A man has been charged with attempted murder, assault with a semi-automatic firearm and other crimes stemming from a Livermore freeway road rage incident in June where he allegedly fired numerous shots at the driver of another vehicle, according to authorities and court records.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of the suspect, Luis Guerrero, 36. He had been arrested the day of the shooting after authorities said the targeted driver got the license plate of the vehicle he was in, but later made bail.

In addition to the counts alleging attempted murder and assault with a semi-automatic firearm, Guerrero was also charged Nov. 3 with shooting at an occupied motor vehicle, carrying a concealed firearm within a vehicle and carrying a loaded firearm in public.

The shooting happened about 9:02 a.m. June 11 on eastbound Interstate 580 near Flynn Road.

The California Highway Patrol said the victim, a man driving a Tesla, was involved in a road rage incident with Guerrero, who was driving a 2005 GMC Yukon SUV. The nature of the argument was not specified.

According to court records, Guerrero allegedly pulled alongside the Tesla and fired several shots at the driver, who was not injured.

The Yukon kept going but the targeted driver was able to get its license plate, which he gave to CHP dispatchers when he reported the shooting. The CHP alerted other area law enforcement agencies.

The Yukon was spotted by San Leandro police about 11:25 a.m. in the area of Williams Street and Aurora Drive. Officers stopped the vehicle and arrested Guerrero, who was tased when he resisted officers, authorities said. After being treated at a hospital, he was booked at Santa Rita Jail.

CHP investigators later found an unregistered .45 caliber pistol and some shell casings in the Yukon, the documents say.

Guerrero eventually made bail at an unspecified date for an unknown amount. His whereabouts are unknown.
