Man stabbed to death after ‘violent fight’ in street

Police cordoned off the crime scene in Bethnal Green

A man has died after he was stabbed during a ‘fight’ on a residential street in east London.

Police said they were called to Corfield Street in Bethnal Green around 8.20pm yesterday.

They said: ‘Officers attended and found a man with a stab injury. Despite the efforts of officers and paramedics from the London Ambulance Service, the 38-year-old man sadly died at the scene.

‘Police officers are working to inform the man’s family. Formal identification is yet to take place.

‘A post-mortem examination will be held in due course.’

Superintendent Alex Ogilvie said: ‘I recognise the impact this violent incident will have on the local community, especially as it happened in a residential street while many people would have been in their homes.

‘We shall be supporting our colleagues in the Specialist Crime Command with their investigation, and you can expect to see officers in the area over the coming days. I encourage you to speak with them about anything you saw or heard, as well as any concerns you may have.’

There have been no arrests and enquiries continue.

A crime scene remains in place.

It comes after a teenager was stabbed and shot while riding his bike during an attack in Dagenham, east London, on Thursday.

The man, 19, was ‘ambushed’ by a group on Whalebone Lane South at about 5.20pm, police said.

The attackers then fled the scene in three cars, leaving the victim in a critical condition.

Four men and a woman, aged between 18 and 25 years old, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and bailed pending further enquiries.
