A Wiltshire man decided to take matters into his own hands to highlight his town’s pothole problem – by turning one into beans on toast.
Campaigner Ben Thornbury, 20, tucked into the traditional English meal to slam the increasingly traditional English problem.
He used two slices of toast and 30 tins of baked beans, then added cheese on top.
‘I guess you could say this has bean a success,’ he joked.
‘Thank God I get a discount from the shop as I would have able to feed my whole family with that amount of beans.’

The stunt was created on Michael Pyms Road, in his home town of Malmesbury, near Swindon, Wiltshire.
Ben has also petitioned the government in a bid to get action taken over the massive amount of potholes.
‘I decided to do something a little out of the ordinary to draw attention to an issue that affects us all,’ he added.
‘The terrible state of our roads. I placed baked beans into a pothole as a creative and eye-catching way to raise awareness.’
Ben said it didn’t take long for passersby to notice the massive meal, and said many were supportive.
‘They offered kind words, gave me a thumbs-up, and said what a great idea it was,’ he said.
‘It was encouraging to see so many members of the community agree that something needs to be done. This light-hearted gesture had a serious message behind it.
‘It’s time for our local and national authorities to take responsibility and fix the roads properly once and for all.’
Another man tried a similar stunt in 2023, filling potholes with Pot O’Noodles to draw attention to the matter.
Mark Morell, also known as Mr Pothole, decided to cook his lunch in the damaged roads to show just how bad the holes are.
‘Potholes drive road users potty and me more than most,’ he said.
‘The pothole crisis across the UK is an increasingly serious issue and something I have been campaigning on for more than 10 years.
‘During this period I have had to use my noodle with stunts to highlight just how bad potholes are, from floating plastic ducks in water-filled potholes, birthday cakes, fishing rods and model submarines.’
