Storm Olivier is set to batter popular holiday hotspots today, with some areas issued with an orange alert for heavy rain.
Olivier will hit the Canary Islands, parts of Spain and Portugal today, with up to 90mm of rain expected in some parts.
The worst-affected parts include La Palma, a mountainous island in the northwest of the Canaries.
For the beginning of this week, Spain’s State Meteorological Agency, also called AEMET, said: ‘Monday: sunny environment without precipitation.
‘Tuesday and Wednesday: Mostly sunny; showers are expected only in the eastern Canary Islands on Tuesday, and in the northeast corner of the peninsula and the Canary Islands on Wednesday; strong and stormy weather is expected on the islands.’

An orange alert issued for today warns that 30mm of rain could soak La Palma, La Gomera, The Iron and Tenerife within an hour.
A yellow alert is also in place for islands including Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura alongside some parts of La Palma, La Gomera and Tenerife.

Dozens of yellow alerts warn that southwestern winds up to 70km/h will lash the islands, with hail battering other parts until tomorrow.

What other storms have hit Spain?

While the weather has been lovely in the UK, Spain has been rocked by awful weather including Storm Nuria.
March saw Spain rocked by four major storms: Martinho, Laurence, Konrad and Jana.
Nuria battered the islands of Tenerife, La Palma, El Hierro and La Gomera.
Olivier is the 15th named storm to sweep Spain – weather officials name particularly major storms to keep public health warnings consistent.
