Marjorie Taylor Greene Says Jan6ers “Will End Up Disappointed” with Trump’s $1.8 Billion Fund

Former MAGA U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), who has referred to those who participated in the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol as “patriots,” is amplifying an op-ed written by Jonathan Gross, an attorney who defended January 6 defendants, which contends that President Trump’s $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization” fund “does not solve the problem.”

Gross noted that he is “skeptical” of the initiative because the fund closes on December 1, 2028, and that the DOJ has not yet announced “when applications will open, what the eligibility criteria are, or how claims will be evaluated.”

Basing his conclusion on Senator Lindsey Graham‘s pursuit of $500,000 after the Biden administration looked at his phone and email records because he communicated with the President on January 6, Gross says $1.8 billion for 1,600 prosecuted — and then pardoned — defendants won’t be enough.

Greene wrote with a link to the article: “I recommend anyone read this article, who has high hopes of being compensated by the Antiweaponization fund. It’s written by my friend Jonathan Gross, who represented many J6’ers. I think many will end up being disappointed.”

Derrick Evans, who pleaded guilty to a felony charge of civil disorder for his participation on January 6, was sentenced to 90 days in prison, and then pardoned by Trump, responded to Greene’s post: “People have no clue everything we went through regarding January 6th.”

Others are responding with satisfaction (“Good. I don’t want one penny of my tax dollars going to this bs. Anyone who is happy about it is welcome to pay my portion”) and skepticism. Vi Mattella, a volunteer with the Innocence Project, replied: “Trump never helped them. He was forced politically to give pardons. He won’t give compensation, he will enrich himself.”
