The design of McDonald’s Boo Buckets hasn’t changed much in recent years, but this Halloween the fast food giant’s candy containers have a new theme: Disney villains.
Beginning Tuesday, Oct. 20, McDonald’s will be offering a Disney Villains Boo Buckets Happy Meal with five designs based on characters in animated features. They are Jafar from “Aladdin,” Ursula from “The Little Mermaid,” Scar from “The Lion King,” Cruella from “One Hundred and One Dalmatians,” and Maleficent from “Sleeping Beauty.”
Boo Bucket designs are usually simple, but these buckets will feature recognizable depictions the of Disney characters. Colors are red, white, orange, green and purple. Each one will come with a villain-inspired lid and a sticker sheet, according to a news release.
Happy Meals include either a hamburger or Chicken McNuggets and cost about $4.99-$6.29. Prices vary by location.
Interest in McDonald’s collectibles is often high, and customers often try to get complete sets of Boo Buckets, leading to sell-outs and strategizing.
Last year’s Christmas promotion, a Grinch meal with collectible socks, created gridlock at some locations when it went on sale.
McDonald’s is also currently promoting a digital version of its Monopoly game, which requires registration to participate.
Dunkin’s has a similar Munchkin Bucket that is already available. This year’s version glows in the dark and comes with the purchase of a random assortment of 50 Munchkins Donut Hole Treats, according to a release. Other collectibles include a Mystery Boo Box for about $8.99 containing either a Spider Donut Squish, a pin set, a keychain or a bandana.
