New face at LGHS

Michael Lozano has been named Los Gatos High School’s new assistant principal.

The announcement comes after the Los Gatos Saratoga Union High School District appointed the school’s current assistant principal, Dave Poetzinger, to take over as principal starting July 1. Lozano, who comes to the district from Leland High School and the Virdom International Academy in China, will also start on July 1.

Lozano worked to address chronic absenteeism and truancy during his time as assistant principal at Leland, and worked with international organizations to “provide pathways for graduates” as principal of Virdom International Academy, a release from the district states.

The Los Gatos-Saratoga Union High School District’s public information officer Tanya De La Cruz, and outgoing Los Gatos High principal Kevin Buchanan were recognized by the Association of California School Administrators last month.

De La Cruz was named the association’s Region 8 Classified Leader of the Year, and Buchanan was recognized as a retiring administrator, according to a release from the district.

The organization acknowledged De La Cruz’s efforts to develop strong partnerships with members of the school community since her arrival in the fall of 2022. Buchanan was recognized for his accomplishments as principal of Los Gatos High.

“He has prioritized student safety and well-being, and thanks to his vision and steadfast determination, his fentanyl awareness campaign has reached thousands of students and families and continues to have momentum throughout the community,” the release states.
