‘Misty Green’ Trailer: Chris Rock Writes, Directs, Stars In Hollywood Satire For A24

Indie movie studio A24 and writer/director/actor/comedian Chris Rock have dropped the first trailer for Misty Green, a Hollywood-set drama that marks Rock’s fourth feature film behind the camera and his first directing project in more than a decade.

Starring Rosalind Eleazar (Slow Horses) in the title role, the film focuses on a once-promising actress attempting to rebuild her career after a series of personal and professional setbacks. As she navigates a jaded Hollywood industry scene that’s quick to cast stars aside, an unexpected opportunity from her past teases a possible path toward career reinvention.

Rock pulls major multi-hyphenate duty on Misty Green as writer/director and co-stars as a pivotal figure from Misty’s past who tries to aid her Hollywood comeback. The film also boasts an ensemble cast including Adam Driver, Anna Kendrick, Topher Grace, and Daniel Kaluuya, who portrays Misty’s troubled brother in his first on-screen acting performance since starring in Jordan Peele’s 2022 sci-fi horror hit, Nope.

Misty Green is Rock’s first directorial effort since the 2014 comedy-drama Top Five, which he also wrote and starred in. Rock, who’s best known as a stand-up comedy superstar, made his directorial debut with the political comedy Head of State (2003) and followed it with the romantic comedy-drama I Think I Love My Wife (2007), writing and starring in both features. Rock also holds co-writing credits on films such as the cult-favorite hip-hop satire CB4 (1993) and the fantasy comedy Down to Earth (2001).

A24 will host the world premiere of Misty Green at the Toronto International Film Festival in September before releasing the film in theaters nationwide this October. Watch the first official trailer below.
