This is the horrifying moment a woman is thrown from a rollercoaster in an accident that killed another woman and injured nine.
CCTV footage of the nightmare moment shows children and families fleeing in terror after the accident at Gröna Lund theme park in Stockholm, Sweden.
The clip shows people looking up in shock and running away as Karin Elmegard plummeted to the ground.
A woman in her 30s died from her injuries when a support arm on the Jetline rollercoaster broke, causing the train to come to a sudden stop and partially derail.
Karin and her husband, Mikael Elmegard, fell from the last car, with Mikael managing to grab onto a beam.
The trial against Gröna Lund and two other companies began last Monday (10 Nov), with CCTV footage of Karin falling shown in court.
‘It was horrifying to see my wife fall out of the car, especially from such a height,’ Mikael told local media.
‘When I saw her lying on the ground, her face covered in blood, I didn’t know if she had survived.
‘It was a terrible impact.’
Despite undergoing surgery, Karin still struggles with simple everyday tasks following the accident on 25 June 2023.
‘It’s really hard to watch that footage, but what’s even harder is seeing my beloved being lifted down from that beam, sitting there all alone, not knowing where I had gone,’ she said.
Moments before plunging six metres (20 ft), Karin saw an object fall from one of the cars, triggering a wave of panic.
‘I remember falling towards the grass, with it rushing up at me at a terrifying speed,’ she told local media.
‘I don’t think I would have survived if I had fallen onto something harder, like the tracks.’
Following the fall, Karin endured a physically painful and mentally exhausting hospital stay, as reported by NeedToKnow.
Prosecutors say Gröna Lund deviated from safety requirements for ride components and are seeking a total corporate fine of 18 million SEK (£1.45m).
All three companies deny wrongdoing, and Gröna Lund is so far refusing to pay compensation to the victims.
Mikael added: ‘We’re glad this trial is finally underway so we can settle the question of responsibility once and for all.
‘We feel it’s important that someone is held accountable.
‘This should never be allowed to happen.’
