OAKLAND — A 55-year-old motorcyclist died Wednesday morning from injuries suffered when he collided with an SUV in the Eastlake area, authorities said.
A second motorcyclist who also crashed fled the scene on foot and is being sought, police said.
The collision happened about 9:08 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and East 10th Street.
Police said the two motorcyclists, who were wearing helmets, were riding southbound on Fifth Avenue when they collided with an SUV going eastbound on East 10th Street.
Police said they are investigating the possibility that the motorcyclists failed to stop for a red light.
The impact caused the 55-year-old rider to be ejected onto the pavement. He was taken to a hospital where he later died. His identity was not publicly released Wednesday.
A detailed description of the motorcyclist who fled on foot has not yet been released.
The driver of the SUV remained at the scene.
Anyone with information about the collision or the rider who fled the scene is asked to call police traffic investigators at 510-777-8570.
