NBC Sports Network returns to Comcast cable as Peacock companion

Almost four years after shutting down, NBC Sports Network is back. The channel returned to Comcast’s Xfinity cable system Tuesday as a companion to the streaming service Peacock.

NBCUniversal, which shut down NBCSN on Dec. 31, 2021, partly to move programming to Peacock, revived it for people who want to stay in a cable, satellite or steaming bundle for sports but don’t subscribe to Peacock. It will carry much of the streamer’s content but not everything. An NFL game in Week 17 and some Olympic content will remain exclusive to Peacock.

NBCU runs the risk of losing subscribers who have the streaming service for sports. It hopes keeping some content exclusive will mitigate that.

NBCSN, which first returned on YouTube TV this month, is airing the NBA, college basketball and English Premier League and will add MLB, NASCAR, WNBA and more in 2026. NBC already is producing the events, so airing them on NBCSN isn’t a great expense. Plus, it widens their audience. The network also airs talk shows including “The Dan Patrick Show” and “The Dan Le Batard Show.”

The channel, No. 1211, is available on Xfinity’s Popular TV tier and Sports and News TV bundle.
