Swearing-in ceremony

The public is invited to the annual election of mayor and vice mayor by the Cupertino City Council, followed by the oath of office, on Thursday, Dec. 11, at Cupertino Community Hall, 10350 Torre Ave. Doors open for the Mayor Initiative Wrap-Up and Reception at 5 p.m., and the ceremony begins at 6 p.m. Refreshments will be provided.

Poetry in the Dark

Those who like poetry but hate public speaking might enjoy a Dec. 5 event at the Cupertino Library hosted by Cupertino Poet Laureate Keiko O’Leary.

“Poetry in the Dark is not a reading or a performance; it is an intimate conversation among friends,” O’Leary says, adding that participants sit in a circle with the lights out and recite poems they know by heart “so that no one feels they’re on the spot.”

The event is set for 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Police Read Along

A Santa Clara County Sheriff’s deputy will be booking some time at the Cupertino Library on Dec. 10 for a special story time. The deputy will read books and share safety tips from 10:3011 a.m. Seating is limited.
