Prosecutors will not file criminal charges after a sideline fight at the end of a Mountain Vista-Valor Christian football game led to an assistant coach’s suspension for getting involved in a confrontation.
The scuffle at the end of the Oct. 3 game in Highlands Ranch was caught on video, which showed dozens of players milling on the sidelines, some shoving, when a hand pushes the back of a Valor Christian running back’s helmet.
Mountain Vista assistant coach Dylan James was ejected by game officials for “hitting a player,” and Valor Christian head of school Bryan Ritz later characterized the “unacceptable” behavior as a coach putting hands on a student.
“Our Investigations Division conferred with the 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office and after reviewing all the evidence, including all available video and conducting several interviews, it has been determined that no criminal charges will be filed,” the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Saturday.
James was suspended for one game by CHSAA and will be put on probation for one year.
