OAKLAND — Oakland police officers assisting Sacramento police early Thursday shot and killed a homicide suspect, police said.
The shooting happened in the 1000 block of 16th Street after officers responded there just before 9:30 p.m., according to a statement from Oakland police.

Details about the homicide that Sacramento police were investigating weren’t known immediately.
Police said that as Oakland officers arrived and started securing the area, the suspect came out of the residence with a gun. Officers fired at the suspect and hit him, police said.
The suspect died at the scene despite subsequent first aid and other treatment from the officers, police said.
None of the officers were injured.
Police did not say how many officers fired, nor did they identify them right away. Those officers, in accordance with police policy, were placed on paid administrative leave, pending an investigation by the department’s homicide division, internal affairs division and the Oakland Community Police Review Agency.
