Orange Lutheran flag football quarterback Makena Cook has enrolled at Sierra Canyon, Trailblazers athletic director Jon Ellinghouse confirmed Friday.

Cook, who will be a senior in the fall, earned Orange County player of the year in 2024 after leading the Lancers to the inaugural CIF-SS Division 1 championship.

Last season as a junior, she was first-team All-County. Orange Lutheran finished as the Division 1 runner-up to JSerra.

Cook is a member of the U.S. national 17-and-under women’s flag football team.

Sierra Canyon will field its first girls flag football team this fall, Ellinghouse said.

Cook also played soccer for Orange Lutheran. She is committed to the University of Georgia for soccer.

Cook’s transfer is the second major change for Orange Lutheran’s girls flag football program in the offseason. In early March, founding coach Kristen Sherman resigned and joined her husband Rod to coach women’s flag football at Cal Poly SLO.

In three seasons with Sherman and Cook, Orange Lutheran girls flag football went 66-14 and won two Trinity League titles.

Orange Lutheran hasn’t announced its new coach for flag football.
