A woman is dead after she was struck by a car while walking in the Near West Side neighborhood Sunday morning, police said.
The woman, 69, was walking in the street when she was hit by a Mazda SUV in the 800 block of West Roosevelt Road around 6:40 a.m., according to Chicago police.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Mazda, a 35-year-old woman, was taken into custody, and charges are pending. The Major Accidents unit of Chicago police is investigating.
