Father and son boxing greats Felix “Tito” Trinidad and Felix Trinidad Sr. were among the 12 inductees for the National Boxing Hall of Fame, honored April 26 at the Quiet Cannon in Montebello.
Felix “Tito” Trinidad, 53, said having his father serve as mentor throughout his career is an honor.
“I always say thank you to my father. I say it every day,” the Puerto Rican boxer who held multiple world championships while competing from 1990 to 2008. “
Three-time Hall of Famer Tim Bradley said the secret to his success was finding his passion.
“Early on, I felt my passion, once I felt my passion I attached something to that passion and what that was was my parents,” he said. “I wanted my parents to be proud of me through boxing. It’s hard work and I got here.”
The Class of 2026 includes commentator Timothy Bradley; and boxing champions Chris Byrd; Tracy Byrd; Seniesa Estrada; Wilfredo Gomez; Rafael Limon; Rafael Marquez; Eric Morales; Victor Terrazas’ and Paul Vaden.
The Hall of Fame recognizes achievements of professional boxers and individuals associated with the sport’s success.
Special recognition was given to Max DeLuca; Dougie Fischer; Lita B. Kaufman; Larry Merchant; Mark Relyea; Marvin Somodio; Farzad Tabatabai; Thomas Taylor; and Claudia Trejos.
Posthumous honors went to Mexican heavyweight champion Julio Cesar Gonzalez and blind trainer Canto Robledo of Pasadena.
Enza Jacoponi received the Don Jose Sulaiman Lifetime Achievement Award. Sugar Ray Robinson accepted the Howie Steindler “Main Street Gym” award, and Yaqui and Beno Lopez received the Bobby “Schoolboy” Chacon Gift of Love award. Steven Navarro and Naomy Valle received Rising Stars honors.
