While many restaurants will offer de rigueur Mexican-American fare for Cinco de Mayo, Pitfire Pizza, a pizzeria with locations in Los Angeles, San Diego and Orange County, has teamed up with Sonoratown, a Northern Mexico-style taco joint in DTLA, to create a one-day-only pizza for May 5.
The Chivichanga Pizza, as it’s called, tips its hat to Sonoratown’s chivichanga burrito but in pizza form on Pitfire Pizza’s blistered sourdough crust and topped with a guisado of shredded chicken, monterey jack and cheddar. The pie is then anointed with a handul of sliced radish, charred green onion and a wedge of lime to be squeezed on shortly before eating. The pizza also comes with sides of avocado cream and Sonoratown’s chiltepin salsa for dipping.

This collaboration pizza will be available at all Pitfire Pizza locations on Sunday, May 5 for dine-in, take-out or delivery. Pitfire has locations in Costa Mesa, Echo Park, Manhattan Beach, Mar Vista, North Hollywood, Orange, Pasadena, Westwood and Woodland Hills, plus Carlsbad in San Diego County.

The pizza runs $20 per pie with $5 from every pizza being donated to No Us Without You, a charity the provides food security for underserved communities in the greater Los Angeles area.
Pitfire’s margaritas, normally $12, will be available for the holiday for $6.
Nominated for a James Beard Award in 2011 for the architecture of its Culver City restaurant, Pitfire offers such pizzas as margherita, smoked mozzarella and barbecue chicken, and pesto chicken, to name a few.
