Power shutoffs planned for Colorado during Wednesday’s expected windstorm will impact part of the Regional Transportation District’s regular light rail schedule in the western Denver area.
Three light rail stations along RTD’s W Line, which runs from the Jefferson County Government Center Station in Golden to Union Station in Denver, will close during Xcel Energy’s planned public safety power shutoffs, according to RTD.
RTD officials said the Xcel power outages will impact RTD’s traction power substations, which supply electrical power to the light rail system.
Buses will replace the W Line train on the west side of the line, between the Jefferson County Government Center and Federal Center stations, RTD officials said. Lights, ticket vending machines and fare validators at the RTD station in Golden will not work during the power outage.
Four commuter rail crossings along RTD’s A Line track may also be impacted by strong winds on Wednesday, according to RTD.
The winds could prevent the 32-foot crossing arms from being able to safely operate, RTD officials said. If that happens, RTD will reduce the A Line frequency to every 30 minutes and supplement the train with a shuttle bus.
This is a developing story and may be updated.
