A major police incident is underway in Felling, northeast England, with a man taken to a ‘major trauma centre’.

Streets on Holly Hill and Elliott Drive in the Gateshead town have been taped off with police still outside homes as of this afternoon.

Witnesses say officers – including a forensics team – have been in the area since midnight, knocking on people’s doors well into the early hours.

Emergency officials say they received a call at about 9.10pm last night of an ‘incident’ with a man taken to a major trauma centre.

Gordon Fallon, 55, who lives near the scene, told the ChronicleLive that the sight of police officers outside his home has left him ‘shocked’.

‘Every time my daughter comes to see us I ask her to let me know she’s got in safely,’ he said.

‘When I’m in the house the doors are always locked and the sneck is on. When I saw it all taped off I knew it was obviously serious.’

Northumbria Police and the North East Ambulance Service have been approached for comment.
