HAYWARD — An on-going dispute over his personal hygiene led to a 38-year-old man to shoot both his parents inside the home they shared before fatally shooting himself, authorities said.
The 70-year-old father, Robert Baltrip Sr., initially survived the Aug. 10 shooting, but died from his wounds Aug. 26, authorities said.
The 71-year-old mother has since been released from a hospital.
The shooting happened about 7 p.m. on Aug. 10 inside the family’s home in the 26000 block of Gading Road.
Police said in the course of the still on-going investigation, they learned the son, Robert Baltrip Jr., was employed as a security guard, and spent most of his time outside of work at home, often staying alone in his room.
Police said the father was upset with his son over issues related to what he perceived as the son’s lack of cleanliness.
The issues culminated in an argument Aug. 10 where the son armed himself with two pistols registered to him and shot both parents and then himself, police said.
The mother was able to call police saying her son had shot both of them and himself.
When police got to the home, they found the three wounded and the parents were transported to a hospital. Baltrip Jr. died at the scene.
There have been seven homicides investigated by Hayward police this year.
