Pride flag rises above LA County headquarters for fourth year in a row
For the fourth year straight, the rainbow-colored, LGBTQ+ Pride Progress Flag is flying over the headquarters of Los Angeles County.
On Friday, June 5, officials from L.A. County helped hoist the flag up the flagpole at the Hill and Temple streets entrance of the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration, the county headquarters in downtown Los Angeles.

First District Supervisor and Board Chair Hilda Solis and Sunitha Menon, executive director of the L.A. County LGBTQ+ Commission, and Sydney Rogers, the chair of the LGBTQ+ Commission, were on hand to help with the flag-raising. Assessor Jeffrey Prang was also in attendance.
Also this week, the Pride flag was raised over the county Department of Public Social Services headquarters.
The events mark the beginning of Pride celebrations traditionally held in June. These celebrate the queer community in L.A. County and coincides with the Stonewall Uprising in New York City 57 years ago for queer civil rights. The flag over county buildings demonstrates L.A. County’s commitment to the LGBTQ+ community for equality and fair treatment.
On Tuesday, June 9, the Board of Supervisors will officially designated June 2026 as Pride Month.
Also, 45 years ago, on June 5, 1981, the first official report was published about what would later become known as AIDS. Today, those who are HIV-positive are treated with drugs that enable the patient to live a long and healthy life. While on the medications, the virus is undetectable and it cannot be passed on through sexual contact.
