Raging mum, 39, glassed boozer in pub when he wrongly guessed her age by four years – but is spared jail

A RAGING mum glassed a punter in a pub when he wrongly guessed her age by just four years.

Joanne Dodd, 39 was having a light-hearted exchange with Carl Cooper when he suggested she was 43.

The victim retreated to a toilet to avoid a row but when he emerged, Dodd ran at him and twice shoved a wine glass in his face.

Carl was left with a 10cm gash to his face, which narrowly missed his eye, and an injury to his thumb.

Dodd faced three years in jail after admitting inflicting grievous bodily harm but was instead handed a suspended sentence.

Judge Elizabeth Nicholls said the mum-of-one was a ”dedicated, hardworking woman” who posed no risk to the public.

She added: “You did not appreciate the comments made by Mr Cooper and one person’s banter may be insulting to other people but that did not justify what you then went on to do.

“It is accepted that you are a dedicated, hardworking woman, and undoubtedly a loving mother. It is right that you were remorseful from the beginning of the events at the police station.

“Perhaps more importantly you are a mother of a young child. Although, no doubt, the child would be taken care of, an immediate term of imprisonment would have a devastating effect on your child.

“It would be disproportionate to the sentence that needs to be imposed.”

Manchester Crown Court was told the attack took place at The Unicorn Pub on September 9 last year.

Dodd had been out drinking with her sister when they began chatting in the beer garden to Carl and his pal.

The chat soon turned to age, with Carl guessing how old both women were.

Dodd, who runs a firm which organises children’s sleepover parties, then told the victim she would “glass” him.

Her lawyer Mark Friend told the court she was suffering from “low self-esteem and self-worth” at the time.

Dodd was handed a 12 month sentence suspended for 12 months and ordered to complete 180 hours of unpaid work.

She was also ordered to pay £800 in compensation to her victim.
