Rain is likely to dampen Halloween plans in Southern California this weekend, meteorologists said Monday, with a storm expected to move into the region beginning Friday.
A low pressure system is expected to last through Sunday and bring rain levels of half an inch to two inches across Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties, according to Monday’s forecast by the National Weather Service.
Saturday, Oct. 31, and Sunday, Nov. 1, are currently the most likely days to see rainfall, meteorologists said. Weather experts urged folks to be ready to use more caution on the holiday this year.
“Have a little bit of a backup plan if it gets too rainy that it stops being fun, but we’re certainly not saying to shut down Halloween. Just have a little bit of extra caution,” said Rose Schoenfeld, a weather service meteorologist.
If rain does hit LA on Saturday, it would be the first time since 2014 that Los Angeles experienced a rainy Halloween, Schoenfeld said.
For those going out to trick-or-treat or other festive activities, bring an umbrella, drive cautiously, pay attention to local weather alerts, and maybe bring an extra layer since temperatures will be dropping, experts urged.
LA residents can expect to feel temperature highs in the upper 60s to low 70s on Friday and in the 60s on Saturday and Sunday, according to Schoenfeld. Orange County folks should anticipate temperature highs in the upper 60s and low 70s Friday through Sunday, said NWS meteorologist Sebastian Westerink.
Inland Empire inhabitants are expected to face temperature highs in the mid-60s Friday through Sunday.
“Make sure you stay informed on the weather by an official weather source as to plan around or with the rain and I would say to be careful on the roads,” Westerink said.
