A posh London restaurant loved by A-listers and the Royal Family has been forced to close after the food was contaminated with rats’ poo.

Beach Blanket Babylon in Notting Hill, west London, was found infested with cockroaches, mice and rats.

The pests covered the restaurant, with faeces being discovered inside customers’ meals by Kensington and Chelsea Council’s food safety team in September 2022.

They also found there was no hot water, and packets of till white seeds, cocoa powder and flaked almonds had been gnawed by mice.

This is despite the likes of Prince William and Kate, Prince Harry and Naomi Campbell all sitting down to enjoy high quality food there.

One nearby cafe worker told Metro: ‘I never went there because I heard horrible things.

Another male co-worker who lives in Notting Hill: ‘Oh it’s just absolutely filthy there’

‘I’ve seen fat rats scuttling round the corners of the building’

‘I went for an engagement party and never returned.’

Operator Conor George Thomson-Moore admitted serious food offences relating to poor food hygiene practices.

He also failed to comply with one of the food safety notices issued previously.

Councillor Cem Kemahli, lead member for planning and public realm said: ‘Neglecting food hygiene not only puts public health at risk, but also undermines trust and credibility within the community.

‘The borough remains a hub for its vibrant restaurant scene for residents and visitors and it’s vital that businesses take necessary steps to keep their premises clean and safe.

‘We will not hesitate to take action and call out those who not only blatantly disregard health risks but break the law as we continue to work towards becoming a safer and fairer borough.’
