The two-vehicle collision was reported around 10:45 p.m. on Jan. 7 at McKee Road and Francis Drive, San Jose police spokesperson Stacie Shih said in a news release.

The man was traveling southbound on Francis Drive in a 2017 Toyota Tacoma when he entered the intersection against a red light and proceeded westbound on McKee Road in the eastbound lane, Shih said.

The Toyota then crashed into a 2004 Buick Rendezvous traveling eastbound on McKee Road.

Shih said the Toyota continued westbound on McKee Road and was eventually located along the shoulder of Berryessa Road after it collided with a tree, Shih said.

The driver of the Toyota was taken to an area hospital with injuries that were initially considered to be not life-threatening, but he died of them on April 1, Shih said.

The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release the man’s identity once it is confirmed and his next of kin is notified.

The death marked the 13th traffic fatality of the year on city streets. At this time last year, San Jose had recorded six roadway deaths.

The driver of the Buick was treated for minor injuries at an area hospital, Shih said.
