SAN LEANDRO — A San Leandro man fatally shot June 14 while walking his dog was identified by the coroner’s bureau Friday as Ryan Christie, 47.
Police still have not specified a possible motive in the killing or announced any arrests.
Christie was shot about 8:23 a.m. June 14 in the area of Euclid Avenue and East 14th Street in the Broadmoor District. His dog, an Akita that was not injured, was still leashed to his hand when he was found, police said at the time. He lived in a neighborhood near the shooting, authorities said.
His death was the city’s first homicide of the year.
According to an online fundraiser set up to help his family, Christie was married and had children. The fundraiser had received more than $11,000 in donations as of Friday morning.
According to the posting, his wife, Rachel, and the children “are now navigating an incredibly difficult time. As she takes time to grieve, care for her kids, and make necessary arrangements, we are coming together to offer support in any way we can.”
Anyone with information regarding the killing is urged to contact San Leandro police by calling Detective Sergeant Jason Vincent at 510-577-3315, Detective Cole Pricco at 510-577-3244, the anonymous tip line at 510-577-3278, or texting a tip to 888777 (keyword: TipSLPolice).
