SCHOOLKIDS cheated death after a suspected drug driver crashed an SUV into their school.

The incident happened at Beacon Church of England Primary School on Heyworth Street, north Liverpool.

A 39-year-old woman from Walton was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and careless driving.

She was taken to a police station for questioning.

Pupils were inside the room just 10 minutes before a woman ploughed her vehicle through the building.

A video showed the scale of damage inside the room after the Mercedes burst through.

The narrator explained how the SUV smashed through a steel perimeter fence and then through the classroom wall.

From the footage, viewers can see how the Mercedes had smashed through desks and chairs before wedging up against a wall.

A spokesperson for Beacon CE School said “We are shocked at today’s incident but relieved that no children were in the classroom at the time.

“We would like to thank the staff for the calm and professional manner in which they have dealt with this and for pupils, parents and carers for responding well and enabling us to evacuate the area safely.

“We are also very grateful for the prompt response of the emergency services.

“We will have the building properly assessed as a priority and hope to be able to open the majority of the building tomorrow but will confirm this directly to the school community in due course.”

A police spokesperson said: “We have arrested a woman following a road traffic collision at a school in Everton this morning, Monday 22 April.

“At around 8.30am, reports were received of a car in collision with Beacon Primary School in Heyworth Street, Everton.

“A 39-year-old woman from Walton has now been arrested on suspicion of drug driving and careless driving and taken to a police station.

“The roads are now open and the school is being assessed for any structural damage and remains closed.

“Thanks for your patience while emergency services and our partners deal with this incident.”
