“Some lists are decided by critics, but not the Top 100 — this one is driven by diner demand,” writes the booking site, which analyzed more than 10 million reviews to develop its ranking.
Prominent on the list, with a rare and perfect 5-star rating, is Sun Moon Studio in West Oakland. Run by industry vets Sarah Cooper and Alan Hsu, the shoebox-size restaurant garnered headlines this year by receiving one star from the Michelin Guide, making it only the second starred restaurant in the city.
The three Michelin-starred eatery SingleThread Restaurant & Inn in Healdsburg is also included. The restaurant is known for its adherence to farm-to-table dining, growing hundreds of different varieties of crops on its Sonoma County land. “Everything is based, first and foremost, on what comes from our farm,” chef Kyle Connaughton has told the Michelin Guide. “That drives the conversation here, the cuisine, it drives everything that we do.”

Rounding out the list are four restaurants in San Francisco: French-inspired Gary Danko, the modern Hellenic eatery Kokkari Estiatorio, The Progress and House of Prime Rib. The Progress is a sister operation to State Bird Provisions, the creative restaurant that made (non-Asian) dim-sum dining a trend. House of Prime Rib, meanwhile, serves just that and was recently rated as one of the toughest reservations to book in the city.
All told, California scored high on OpenTable’s list with 18 restaurants total. Other high-ranking states include Texas (10 listings) and New York (11 listings). Scores were based on 10 million-plus reviews from September 2024 to the end of August 2025, and took into account diner ratings, percentage of five-star reviews and of reservations made in advance.
