Six Flags Magic Mountain pushes back new coaster to 2027

Ride enthusiasts eagerly anticipating the debut of a new roller coaster planned for Six Flags Magic Mountain in 2026 will have to wait a little longer for the first-of-its-kind thrill ride.

Magic Mountain has pushed back the debut of the new coaster to 2027, according to Six Flags officials.

Magic Mountain announced in late 2024 that the new first-of-its-kind roller coaster in North America would debut in 2026.

“As we continue to evaluate our construction projects, we’ve realized that the nature of this attraction means that it will take a bit longer to complete than originally anticipated,” according to Six Flags Magic Mountain officials. “To ensure the coaster meets our high standards of innovation, thrills and safety that you expect and deserve, we have revised the timeline to 2027.”

Bugs Bunny World will be transformed into Looney Tunes Land in celebration of the Valencia amusement park’s 55th anniversary in 2026.

Work will start in early January on the extensive makeover of the Magic Mountain kids area that is expected to fully reopen in summer 2026.

“Behind the scenes, we have been working on an exciting multi-year improvement plan,” according to Six Flags Magic Mountain officials. “The introduction of this innovative roller coaster will be another marquee moment of the park’s overall campus enhancement that kicked off this summer with the complete revitalization of Hurricane Harbor, will continue into 2026 with the transition of Bugs Bunny World to Looney Tunes Land and continue into 2027 with another world-class roller coaster to transform our skyline.”

The new Magic Mountain attractions are part of Six Flags’ plan to spend $1 billion on new rides, themed areas, special events and other amenities at its amusement parks and water parks by the end of 2026.

Magic Mountain’s new coaster will be built on the site of the former Golden Bear Theater that was demolished in early 2024.

Support beams have begun arriving at a staging area for Magic Mountain’s 2027 coaster.

Magic Mountain last added the Wonder Woman Flight of Courage coaster in 2022.

Magic Mountain announced the permanent closure of the Superman: Escape from Krypton shuttle coaster in March.

The transformation of Bugs Bunny World into Looney Tunes Land will remove two kiddie coasters — the 1947 Magic Flyer and 2014 Speedy Gonzales Hot Rod Racers.
