A 17-year-old Skokie teen died after he was pulled from the water Wednesday night at Lighthouse Beach in Evanston.
Sameer Quadri slipped under water around 8:50 p.m., at the beach, in the 2600 block of Sheridan Road, along the north side of the beach’s break wall, according to the fire department and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
A full water rescue response was initiated, including a drone equipped with infrared technology and a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter, the fire department said.
Around 9:30 p.m., Quadri was located about 30 yards off the break wall, officials said.
Advanced life support care was immediately provided on shore before Quadri was taken to Evanston Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:55 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.
All Evanston beaches were closed Wednesday under red flag conditions, with swimming advisories in effect until 10 a.m. Thursday.
