The Sky signed guard Saylor Poffenbarger to a hardship contract Tuesday. She’ll be available for Wednesday’s home game against the Tempo.
“She’s here, she’ll be dressed and out there,” coach Tyler Marsh said before the game.
Marsh is looking for her to rebound and help fill in at the 3/4 position.
“She can handle well enough to play on the perimeter, she can shoot it well enough as well,” Marsh said. “But we need her rebounding prowess, so we’ll try to find some opportunities to get her there.”
Poffenbarger went undrafted in 2026 but signed a training camp contract with the Lynx. She played college ball at UConn, Arkansas, and Maryland.
The Sky were down to nine active players before signing Poffenbarger. Leading scorer Rickea Jackson tore her ACL May 17 against the Lynx. Rookie Gabriela Jaquez hurt her left knee the same night, according to Marsh, but played in the next two games.
Jaquez is out for Wednesday’s game and will be evaluated in one week, according to a team source. Guards Courtney Vandersloot and DiJonai Carrington remain out with long-term injuries.
Flashes of dominance have defined her first two seasons. Now she has to prove she can sustain them.
