INDIANAPOLIS — The Sky kept it close for the first quarter, but the Fever are on the verge of pulling away and went into halftime up 45-32 in the season opener for both teams. Reigning Rookie of the Year Caitlin Clark leads all players with 12 points for the Fever.
No Sky player has hit double digits in scoring yet. Angel Reese and Rebecca Allen each have seven points, and Reese has a game-high nine rebounds. The team is shooting just 28% from the field.
After falling behind by 13 late in the second quarter, the Sky fought back to close within 38-30, but a late run by the Fever pushed the lead back to 13.
Reese has shown some of the new look she hoped to unveil by playing more on the perimeter and extending her shooting range. She pulled up for a three-pointer at the top of the key with 8:23 left in the second quarter. She has made 3 of 8 shots, has two fouls and two turnovers in 13 minutes.
Clark has made 3 of 9 shots for her 12 points to go along with four rebounds, three assists, three blocks and three turnovers. She been in foul trouble early as well and has two at the half.
