SNP leader Humza Yousaf branded ‘lame duck’ as his government teeters on brink of collapse

SNP leader Humza Yousaf was last night branded a “lame duck” as his government teetered on collapse.

Scotland’s First Minister will fight two no-confidence votes next week that could end both his premiership and the Nats’ reign.

His decision to scrap a shaky coalition deal with the Greens backfired when they joined the Tories, Labour and Lib Dems in demanding he quit.

Dismissing growing pressure to go, he insisted: “We’ll be getting on with the job.”

Mr Yousaf, wearing a hard hat to tour a Dundee housing development, is facing a no-confidence in his leadership, and now a second vote on his government.

Opposition parties have 64 votes against the SNP’s 63.

He could cling on if backed by ex-SNP member Ash Regan, now in Alex Salmond’s Alba party.

She suggested she may support him if he abandoned his “harmful” gender reforms.

However, Scottish Labour’s deputy Jackie Baillie insisted Mr Yousaf was “finished”.

Scots Tory leader Douglas Ross said his refusal to quit was a “desperate and humiliating attempt by a lame duck First Minister to save his job.”

Independence-obsessed Mr Yousaf’s 13-month tenure has seen a plunge in polls amid a series of embarrassments.
