SoCal Edison says 5,000 individuals offered compensation in Eaton fire program

Southern California Edison last week announced it had offered 5,000 fire survivors monetary settlements totaling more than $700 million.

The public utility, whose equipment is alleged to have sparked the Eaton fire, started its own Wildfire Recovery Compensation Program last year that offers non-negotiable settlements calculated based on a claimants’ residential property damage, personal property and transportation expenses, business interruption and physical injury or death.

“Recovery looks different for every family and business. Our focus is on helping people move forward with dedicated support, clear information and a streamlined process that delivers timely, fair outcomes,” Pedro J. Pizarro, president and CEO of Edison International, SCE’s parent company, said in a statement.

Offers are delivered to applicants within 90 days, SCE said. By accepting an offer and signing a settlement agreement, a claimant agrees to not pursue legal action including waiving future claims.

According to Edison, the program is open through Nov. 30. To submit a claim, visit edison.com.

Edison is hosting a community meeting from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, for community members to learn about the program. The meeting will be hosted at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Pasadena, 1757 N. Lake Ave.

SCE representatives and participants in the compensation program will be part of the meeting.
