One of the top boys basketball transfers in the Bay Area will be allowed to play for his new school after all.
Highly touted transfer Jalen Stokes won his appeal with the North Coast Section and was ruled eligible to play for Dougherty Valley, a source close to the situation told the Bay Area News Group on Friday afternoon.
Stokes, who spent three seasons at fellow East Bay Athletic League school Dublin before transferring to the San Ramon program this summer, was initially ruled ineligible by the NCS almost two weeks ago.
Stokes is expected to play immediately.
The Wildcats are currently in Southern California for the Santa Barbara Holiday Classic, and will play Santa Barbara High on Friday night.
Dougherty Valley will then play Sierra Canyon, which rosters LeBron James’ son Bryce James, on Saturday.
Dougherty Valley (8-4) has lost three of its last six games after starting the season 7-1. The Wildcats are ranked No. 4 in the latest Bay Area News Group rankings.
Dougherty Valley coach Mike Hansen declined to comment when reached by this news organization.
Stokes was the top player at Dublin last season, leading the Gaels to an NCS Division I title game berth where they eventually fell to Dougherty Valley in a close contest.
The 6-foot-5 wing averaged 19.4 points and 8.3 rebounds per game while shooting 49% from the field.
Stokes is signed with UC-Davis.
