Warren’s Jaxson Davis, the 2026 Sun-Times Player of the Year, is transferring to a prep school for his senior year.
Davis led the Blue Devils to 87 wins over the past three seasons, including a Class 4A state runner-up finish in 2025.
The junior point guard savant is a three-time All-Area selection.
He was on the verge of becoming the all-time leading scorer in Lake County history with an outside shot of reaching a scoring milestone few in state history have ever reached: 3,000 career points.
But the final chapter in what was becoming a pretty illustrious high school career won’t be written.
Davis intends to play at a new school, Monarch Academy in Kansas City, Kan. Monarch, which was unveiled on Thursday night, will play in the prestigious Nike EYBL Scholastic League. Monarch features an impressive new basketball training facility and offers online learning with some in-person classes.
Jaxson’s dad, Brian Davis, told the Sun-Times that Jaxson was on track to graduate early from Warren and needs to complete just two more classes to earn his high school degree.
“It is with great excitement, yet mixed emotions, that I announce my commitment to spend my senior year at Monarch Academy,” Davis said in a statement. “My goal has always been to challenge myself, continue growing, and become the best player I can be.”
Davis’ other basketball experiences, including trying out for USA Basketball and playing with Meanstreets on Nike’s EYBL circuit, gave him a glimpse of where he needed to be as a player. He felt the best way to prepare for what’s to come in his basketball career was to head to a prep school.
“Jaxson came to me and said it was time for him to leave Warren,” Brian Davis told the Sun-Times. “He told me he had to get better. He wants to be college-ready — not just ready for college but ready to play in college — and he didn’t feel like he could do that playing another year of high school basketball. He felt staying for another year would prevent him from getting better.”
Davis is the top-ranked player in the state. He recently received an offer from Kentucky, while Marquette, Iowa, Michigan, Creighton, Northwestern and others have been heavily involved in his recruitment.
“Before beginning this next chapter I want to sincerely thank my Warren family. My coaches, teammates, athletic department, administration, faculty, students and everyone who has supported me over the past three years. The experiences, relationships and development I gained at Warren have played a major role in shaping me both as a player and as a person,” Davis said in the statement.
Davis, Bolingbrook’s Davion Thompson and Kenwood’s Devin Cleveland took the state by storm as freshmen. All three eventually left for out-of-state prep schools.
Cleveland left for La Lumiere in Indiana after his sophomore season and Thompson left for Link Academy, Mo. after his sophomore year. Thompson committed to Arkansas earlier this week.
