TARZANA — Police released more details Sunday about the death of a 45-year-old man who was found dead in Tarzana after a standoff that lasted for over 16 hours.
Officers were called to the 5700 block of Etiwanda Avenue around 10:30 a.m. Thursday regarding a battery domestic violence call, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
They met with the victim, who indicated she and the suspect, later identified as 45-year-old Marlon Jimenez, were married and had a history of domestic violence. The officers allegedly observed visible injuries on the victim, which she stated had been caused by Jimenez.
The victim directed the officers to the suspect, who was inside a bedroom of the apartment. As officers attempted to get him to step into the hallway, he allegedly argued with them, then reached to his rear waistband and claimed he had a knife while retreating into a bedroom where he barricaded himself.
“Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) were requested and responded to the location. After several hours of attempting to gain compliance from Jimenez, SWAT made entry and discovered Jimenez face down on the floor of his bedroom, underneath a mattress, with a ligature around his neck connected to the frame of his bed,” police said Sunday.
“A loaded firearm was discovered next to the right side of Jimenez’s hand. The firearm was a reported stolen loaded 9mm pistol.”
The LAPD’s force investigation division was conducting an investigation into the death.
