Takeaways from the Bears’ loss to the Colts

Three takeaways from the Bears’ ugly loss Sunday in Indianapolis:

Walk, don’t run

Bears running back D’Andre Swift (above) had 13 carries for 20 yards, including a loss of 12 on fourth-and-goal from the Colts’ 1 in the second quarter. Swift, whom the Bears gave a three-year, $24 million deal in March, has run 37 times for 68 yards this season. Take away a 20-yard run on which he hurdled a defender in Week 1, though, and he has 36 carries for 48 yards.

Turnover time

Rookie quarterback Caleb Williams threw two interceptions, bringing his season total to four, and fumbled with a chance to march the Bears down the field for the lead in the fourth quarter. Former Bears quarterback Justin Fields had only two two-interception games in 2023 and only two in 2022.

Low ratings

Remarkably inaccurate, Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson (above) posted a passer rating of 39 and still managed to win the game. Since the AFL/NFL merger in 1970, the Bears have held an opposing team to a passer rating of 40 or lower 99 times. They are 83-15-1 in those games. Before Sunday, their most recent loss in such a game came in 1994.
