Text messages sent by a female teacher accused of sleeping with two of her students and getting impregnated by one have been revealed.

Messages sent by Rebecca Joynes, 30, show the maths teacher telling a boy to come over to her place, and telling him ‘it’s only you’ when the pair joked about another student joining them when they met up.

Other texts showed the boy claiming he didn’t like maths lessons as he got ‘too distracted’, which Joynes said had ‘better’ be because of the work.

Joynes, currently on trial after being released on bail, deleted the messages after performing a factory reset on her phone, but they were retrieved by police after they contacted the network provider.

Messages sent to Boy A by Rebecca Joynes

The schoolboy, referred to as Boy A, claims Joynes took him to Selfridges at the Trafford Centre and bought him a £345 belt before taking him back to her flat.

Prosecutors claim the pair later had sex twice that night after the teenager had lied to his mother about staying over at a friend’s house.

After having unprotected sex for a second time, he allegedly told his teacher: ‘I hope to God you don’t get pregnant.’

The schoolboy previously told police that ‘anyone in my position’ would have agreed to go back to their ‘good looking’ maths teacher’s apartment for sex.

Joynes is on trial at Manchester Crown Court accused of ‘grooming’ her former student, who denied fabricating the allegations against Joynes because she had rejected his advances.

During cross-examination, Katy Appleton, defending, asked the teenager: ‘Were you concerned what your friends would say if they found out she had turned you down.’

‘No,’ he replied.

Ms Appleton asked the boy if he felt ‘embarrassed’ and ‘angry’ because Joynes had ‘rejected’ him, which he denied. She had suggested that the boy’s claims about Joynes had elevated his ‘status’ at school.

She then asked if he felt more popular or had his social status ‘boosted’ as a result of what happened between him and Joynes, to which he also replied ‘no’.

Further questioning from Ms Appleton saw the boy agreed that he had gone to Joynes flat because ‘he wanted something sexual to happen between them’, but he denied having a conversation with her about their past sexual histories.

Ms Appleton claims Joynes ‘reluctantly’ allowed the boy to stay the night as long as he slept on her couch, and asked the boy if he felt ‘embarrassed’ about fabricating sexual claims.

She claimed ‘at no point’ did Joynes engage in sexual activity with the boy, who she accused of lying, which he denied.

A friend of the boy initially covered for him by going along with the story that he was staying at his house, the court heard.

But he later became concerned and asked his mother to drive them to collect the boy from Joynes’ flat.

He told the boy that Joynes had ‘groomed’ him, but he replied: ‘No I haven’t, I was loving it.’

The friend’s mother then called the boy’s ‘hysterical’ mother to tell her what had happened and she had contacted the school.

Police launched an investigation in October 2021 and Joynes was subsequently charged over Boy A and suspended by her school.

The court released her on bail on condition she did not contact any child under 18- it later emerged she had begun a long-term relationship with a second child whilst on bail, and had become pregnant with his child.

Joynes is alleged to have had sex with the 16-year-old – known as Boy B – ‘at least 30 times’ at her flat after they began messaging each other on Snapchat.

The initial messages were not of a sexual nature, he said, but soon became flirty and saw Joynes send him revealing pictures of herself.

‘As a 16-year-old lad I thought I was in there,’ he said.

Joynes’ defence claims the Boy A is lying about their relationship

He said their relationship progressed and he asked if they could meet up and Joynes invited him to her flat in Salford.

‘I went to hers and it was quite awkward at first because she didn’t want to get caught and I was nervous because I was meeting up with someone double your age and I’ve known for years,’ he said.

He said when he arrived at the flat he asked Joynes: ‘Don’t I even get a kiss.’

They had kissed but Joynes had told she him she didn’t know if they should ‘before you leave school’.

But they had carried on kissing before going to her bedroom and having sex, he said.

He said that was the first time they had sex but they went on to have sex at least 30 times in ‘numerous different places’.

The boy said he was aware that Joynes had been arrested and bailed over allegations relating to Boy A, who sat next to him in class.

He said Joynes had told him that she bail conditions meant she couldn’t contact any child under 18.

But one day she had just said ‘yes’ when he asked to meet up and she had driven from her mum’s cafe in Wirral, where she was working at the time, to see him.

Joynes denies two counts of sexual activity with Boy A, two counts of sexual activity with Boy B, and two counts of sexual activity with Boy B while being a person in a position of trust.

The trial, expected to last two weeks, continues.
