The annual “Bark-tober” in Sylmar offered free vaccines and exams for dogs and cats

Aimed at dogs and cats and their owners, the Bark-tober event this week at El Cariso Community Regional Park in Sylmar offered free vaccines, free microchipping, and free veterinary exams, provided by the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control.

The Sylmar Neighborhood Council and L.A. County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath hosted.

Horvath said in a prepared statement, “Bark-tober brings together families, neighbors, and their pets for a day that celebrates community and care. What began as a local gathering in Sylmar has grown into a county-supported event that connects residents with free, essential animal services. From vaccinations to microchipping, we’re making it easier for every pet to live a healthy, happy life.”

Horvath brought her dog Winston, who has his own page dedicated to animal welfare on the supervisor’s official website.

“Winston and I are grateful to our partners and volunteers who make this joyful tradition possible year after year,” she said.
