Third grade teacher sexually abused 5 students ‘multiple’ times in West Chicago: prosecutors

A DuPage County judge on Friday ordered a former West Chicago third grade teacher detained after he was accused of sexually abusing five students multiple times over the 2025-2026 school year, county officials announced Friday.

Mario Garcia, 54, of Aurora, was charged with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, five counts of aggravated sexual abuse and four counts of aggravated battery, according to a statement from the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office.

Following a thorough, child-sensitive investigation, it was alleged that during the 2025-2026 school year, Garcia inappropriately touched five students on multiple occasions at Currier Elementary school, 800 Garys Mill Rd. the statement said.

West Chicago police and the DuPage County Children’s Center were notified by authorities on May 14 of the allegations against Garcia, a third grade teacher.

Garcia, of the 2500 block of Looking Glass Court in Aurora, remains in custody and is due back in court on Aug. 31.
