Takeaways from the Bears’ 34-17 loss Sunday to the Lions at Soldier Field:
Time for 9
The Bears lost their ninth consecutive game, putting them one off the single-season franchise record of 10 they set in 2022, former coach Matt Eberflus’ first season. Many Bears fans didn’t want to see it up close: There were more Lions jerseys in the stands than those of any previous visiting team this season.
All pass, no run
The Bears trailed 20-0 in the second quarter and spent the second half throwing — and not running. Caleb Williams’ garbage-time throws left him with a sparkling stat line: 26-for-40 for 334 yards with two touchdowns and a 107.7 passer rating. D’Andre Swift ran only nine times for 20 yards, however, and fellow running back Roschon Johnson had one carry for three yards.
‘Ja-red Goff’
Lions fans serenaded their quarterback with chants of ‘‘Ja-red Goff’’ — and for good reason. He completed 23 of 32 passes for 336 yards with three touchdowns for a sparkling 137 passer rating. It was a brutal six days for the Bears’ defense, which allowed 330 yards, two touchdown passes and a 116.1 passer rating to Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold on Monday.
Most of Caleb Williams’ production came after the Bears trailed 20-0. The offensive line lost two starters in the second quarter — it is what it is at this point. The secondary struggled against Jared Goff and Jameson Williams.

The Lions scored on their first five possessions — three TDs and two field goals — and gained 475 yards against a Bears defense that has to come to a hard realization: It hasn’t been the same since the Hail Mary against the Commanders.
